Date: 31 May – 3 June 2016
Place:Technical University of Varna, Varna, Bulgaria
The MaXIMA action, funded by EU programme HORIZON2020, has organized the 1st Training School entitled “Advanced 3D Imaging for biology samples”. The lecture course has been held in response to the needs of a new generation of interdisciplinary professionals. Therefore, targeted participants were MSc biomedical engineers, PhD researchers and young scientists in the specific field.
The 1st Training School was held at the Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria from 31st May to 3rd June 2016. Due to the rapid advances of technological developments and their leading role in modern medicine the Training School has aimed at boosting the local researchers background and hands on training for using micro CT from biology samples, and the related image processing techniques. The Training School has been attended by 15 participants from Technical University of Varna and Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria.
The lectures has been given by Prof. Paolo Russo from the University of Naples – Federico II. The invited expert has given presentations on the following topics:
1. X-ray CT basics
2. X-ray tubes
3. 2D Radiography detectors
4. Image quality parameters
5. CT reconstruction
6. Micro-CT scanners
7. Micro-CT dose
All lectures have been followed by open discussion, which has shown great interest of the participants.
During the third day of the training school, the project Coordinator has organized a group visit to the Oncology centre at the University Hospital “St. Marina” in Varna, where the participants has followed interested practical presentations regarding X-ray CT scanning and radiotherapy treatment machines.
The 1st dedicated Training School has been exclusively oriented towards theoretical basis. In August there will be organized the 2nd Training School in the same field in Leuven, Belgium, which will mainly focus on practical aspects.
Announcement for the Training School
VIEW PROGRAM
The rapid advances of technological developments and their leading role in modern medicine has revealed the need for a new generation of interdisciplinary professionals. In response to these needs, MaXIMA project organizes a dedicated training school entitled: ”Advanced 3D Imaging for biology samples” with the participation of invited experts in medical physics. Targeted participants are MSc biomedical engineers, PhD and young scientists in the field.
The training school offers two stand-alone courses – a theoretical and practical part, that may be attended alone or in a sequence.
The theoretical part will be held during 31.05 – 03.06.2016 at the Technical University of Varna. Prof. Paolo Russo from University of Naples – Federico II will lead lectures on: radiography detectors, CT basics, micro CT scanners, micro CT dose issues, micro CT equipment: kVp, detector, sources, acquisition geometries, image resolution, software for reconstructions, advantages and limitations of use of this CT for the purposes of scanning biology data.
The duration of the training school is four days. The program includes presentations from the invited speakers, followed by open discussion between participants and experts.
Admission requirements:
1. Knowledge of English
2. MSc students, PhD or young scientists in the field of biomedical engineering or biomedical physics.
Application:
Please, send us your Expression of interest to attend the Training school before 26.05.2016 to email: yanita.chernogorova@gmail.com
The practical part of the training school will be held in August in Katholieke University of Leuven, Belgium. More information coming soon.
